Hello Reader, Before we get onto this week’s update, a quick welcome if you're new to my newsletter 👋 Each week, I share tips, behind-the-scenes moments, updates on classes, what’s new, or sometimes just what’s going on in my corner of the gift wrapping world. Yesterday, I asked a simple question on Instagram: How many gift wrapping techniques or styles can you name? 🎀 For most people, gift wrapping is simply wrapping a gift in paper (or popping it into a gift bag), adding a ribbon/bow and calling it a day. But once you start looking a little closer, there are far more techniques and styles than you might imagine (many of which I showcased in Advent of Wrapping last year). There are pocket wraps (like in the picture above - I used a sheet of the new double-sided wrap for this), Japanese pleats, fabric wraps, kimono wraps, gift voucher sleeves, circular gift wrapping techniques and countless ways to finish a gift with ribbon. In fact, the more I thought about it, the longer the list became. I suspect there are well over 100 different techniques, styles and finishing touches once you start including bows, ribbons and presentation details. Some techniques are practical and help with awkward shapes. Some are decorative and create a real wow factor. Others are simply clever little tricks that make wrapping easier, neater and less stressful. Of course, knowing lots of techniques isn't really the point. The best technique is the one that helps you wrap a gift beautifully and confidently, whether that's a simple box, a gift voucher or something a little more challenging. So now I'm curious... What's the most unusual gift wrapping technique you've seen or tried? I'd love to hear your answers. Lou |
